Nuestros Fundadores, la Beata Madre María Ràfols y el Venerable Padre Juan Bonal, respondieron a la petición que les hizo la Junta de Gobierno del Hospital Real y General de Nuestra Señora de Gracia, en Zaragoza (España), con el fin de mejorar la asistencia material y espiritual de los enfermos. Este Hospital había sido fundado en 1425 por D. Alfonso V, Rey de Aragón, con el lema “Domus Infirmorum Urbis et Orbis”, y con el escudo de la Jarra de Azucenas, insignia muy apreciada por él.

Esta Junta les concedió a nuestros Fundadores y a nuestras Primeras Hermanas el privilegio de utilizar el escudo del Hospital Real como símbolo de su pequeña Hermandad, por haber sido fundada en el mismo. 

Our Founders, Blessed Mother Maria Rafols and Venerable Father John Bonal, responded to the request made to them by the Governing Board of the Royal and General Hospital of Our Lady of Grace, in Zaragoza (Spain), in order to improve care material and spiritual of the sick. This Hospital had been founded in 1425 by D. Alfonso V, King of Aragon, with the motto “Domus Infirmorum Urbis et Orbis”, and with the shield of the Jar of White Lilies, an insignia highly appreciated by him.

This Board granted our Founders and our First Sisters the privilege of using the shield of the Royal Hospital as a symbol of their small Fraternity. for having been founded therein.

Con fecha del 27 de octubre del año 1923, la Superiora General de la Congregación, Madre Pabla Bescós Espiérrez, solicitó una autorización para modificar el Escudo Congregacional, al Sr. Presidente del Directorio Militar, D. Antonio Mayandía Gómez, quien a su vez la remitió al Ministerio de Gracia y Justicia de España.

Dicha modificación consistió en añadir a la insignia de la Jarra de Azucenas, que ya se venía utilizando, la Corona Real, el Laurel y la Palma. Con anterioridad, dicha Superiora General había hecho también esta petición al Gobierno Civil de la Provincia de Zaragoza.

La autorización fue concedida por Su Majestad el Rey D. Alfonso XIII, a través del Ministerio de Gracia y de Justicia de España, con fecha de 18 de marzo de 1924, hace hoy cien años.

On October 27, 1923, the Superior General of the Congregation, Mother Pabla Bescos Espierrez, requested authorization to modify the Congregational Shield from the President of the Military Directory, Mr. Antonio Mayandia Gomez, who in turn sent it to the Ministry of Grace and Justice of Spain.

This modification consisted of adding the Royal Crown, the Laurel and the Palm to the insignia of the Jar of White Lilies, which had already been used. Previously, said Superior General had also made this request to the Civil Government of the Province of Zaragoza.
